The only dedicated place to buy a Japanese Knife in Paris.
You can buy the most absurd culinary equipment in France, though until recently there was never anywhere to buy a Japanese knife.
After 16 years in London, where JKC now has three outlets, doors opened on the Marché d’Aligre boutique in 2014. Today it knife-mecca to Paris’ most intriguing chefs, who stop by for kitchen knives and to sharpen beautiful tableware.
The light wood-filled space is filled with gleaming cabinets of damascus steel, offset with a wall of Japanese kitchen tools you never know you needed.
Determined to make the most of the concept, you can often find sake tastings happening on a Saturday afternoon. There are cooking lessons, chef demonstrations and the promise of sushi workshops, regularly updated on their Facebook page.
You can also sign up for an afternoon crash-course in filleting fish or chopping vegetables, seated at exquisite 12-seater kitchen bar.
On a more practical level, you can stop by to have your own knives sharpened for a small fee – even if you didn’t buy them at the shop.
Impress fellow hipsters: The London location was the first Hamonoya in Europe.
