Restaurant Raviolis – officially known as Guo Xin – is a small Chinese canteen pumping out handmade dumplings to order.
As with the best Chinese restaurants, you don’t come to Restaurant Raviolis for the decor, service or wine. To get to the bathroom you walk through part of the kitchen, beer is generally served at room temperature and customer service can be described as curt.
That said, the reason that you will come here is because 15 dumplings cost €6.50 – and that is for the ‘fancy’ ones. Our favourites are the porc/ciboulette, boeuf/celeri and the pork/champignon noir, which can be ordered grilled and steamed (à la gyoza) or in a comfortingly salty broth with spring onions.
Start with the cold cucumber, sautéed aubergine and Chinese cabbage. Take a grande Tsingsao and pray that its cold. Then settle into the buzz of the increasingly popular dining room that never seems to change.
Impress fellow hipsters: The Chinese word for dumplings – Jiaozi – comes from the horn shape of the small parcels.
